Hi, Peter > Can anyone who has been there or lives in Brazil or Peru please advise me > some 'must' things to do since I will be in the region. I do not speak one > word of Spanish. I can spend maybe 10 days at either end of the trip in > Brazil and in Peru. I do not know the region personally but for sure bring something to repell mosquitos and a rain coat with an air conditioner :-) I am in Brazil but far away from the jungle. If you need any specific help fell free to ask and I can try to look around for the information. We have cities with millions of people and very high technology but you are really going to the jungle, be prepared. By the way... Do not try spanish in Brazil or Portuguese in Peru. It will not work too well. English should get you going if you keep close to the tourist guides. I would not advise to run away from them, at least not in that region. If you get to Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paulo you will do ok with english and can walk around as safely as in New York ( not too safe :-) ). On the region you are going to travel Belem and Manaus are basically the only "big" cities around and the weather is hot and damp.
