No problem anymore: http://www.electronics-tutorials.com/basics/power-supp-variable.htm This is an excellent PSU for begginers, simple and C H E A P to construct. This PSU can go from 1.2 to more than 30V in its output. you can just eliminate the Voltimeter and Amperimeter if you don't (or can't) spend this amount of money. It will give you something more than 1Ampere, but If you change the LM317T for a LM317K (the TO- 3 version, looks like a 2N3055) you can have 5 Amperes. Of course, according with the power of the transformer you put on the input of this circuit.
