Why would Microchip 'cheat' their customers ? There might be a mistake in their documentation and if so, it should be = reported to them. But they have nothing to gain by saying a product does one thing when it = doesn't. Most developers purchase a couple of samples, try a design and if all is = well, their project goes into production. Microchip probably arn't = really that interested in selling small quantities of chips. They want = to sell thousands, and to do that, developers MUST be able to make them = do what Microchip says. If you really belive there is a problem, I would contact them before = accusing them of cheating or perhaps ask this list if anyone has had = similar problems as your having. IMHO.... -----Original Message----- From: Anbunathan R [mailto:anbunathan@CGSMITH.SOFT.NET] Sent: 04 August 2002 08:17 To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Subject: Microchip should not cheat us Hi, Whatever Microchip specification about ICSP is not correct. Especially i = want to develop a programmer for Flash controllers like 16F84,16F628 and = 16F873. I could succeed in reading, writing, erasing the flash memory and = configuration memory. Whereas if i try to protect and unprotect the chip = i could n't. I have followed the ICSP specification to do the above = function which is given by Microchip. But my time and effort gone waste. = Microchip should not do this. I feel Microchip is cheating the engineers = by giving a wrong programming spec.
