better yet, just get a line restrictor from Radio Shack, part number 43-445 for $9.99 each. prevents extension from picking up. put one on each telephone line, and neither can interfere with the other, automatically switches phone #2 out when phone #1 picks up. can use as many as you like if you have 4 phones, get 4 devices, one for each line/telephone or just use a fax switch.
