I am doing exactly this with my yard light controller, which is working fine. The lamps are 12VAC and draw around 8-10A total (haven't measured it still, but it's heavy). I'm using IRLZ34's, Rds(on) of about .046 Ohm, they get a little toasty but work great. Working schematic (I think it's up to date other than a couple of part numbers) is at http://www.botkin.org/dale/yardlites if you're interested. Many thanks to Dave D. and other list members for helping me figure that one out. When working with MOSFETs, gate voltage is your friend. 8-) Dale -- "Curiosity is the very basis of education and if you tell me that curiosity killed the cat, I say only the cat died nobly." - Arnold Edinborough On Fri, 19 Jul 2002, Russell McMahon wrote: > *** Useful application of MOSFETS as AC power switches *** -- http://www.piclist.com#nomail Going offline?
