Hi List!
I'm going to be troubleshooting a problem with my instrument panel in =
the dash of my '93 Lexus LS400 and I'm hoping for some input from the =
list. The dealer wants $1400 to replace it!

Here's the problem: After starting the car when cold, the instrument =
panel is dark (it won't light up). You can't see any of the analog =
gauges or anything. After 10-15 mins. or so, It begins to come to life, =
that is, it will start by blinking on and off rapidly and randomly with =
a duty cycle that begins mostly off and over the next 10 mins. increases =
this rapid blinking until they finally come on and stay on. They will =
then stay on indefinately until the car has been off for several hours =
and cooled down. Then the process starts all over again.

I think those lights are EL type but I have no experience with EL =
displays. If you have ever seen a flourescent light with the tube going =
out or the ballast failing, such that the light blinks on and off =
randomly until it warms up, then comes on, that's what it looks like.

Any Ideas, tips, suggestions?
