Actually I have gotten both of mine to work, they are kind of finiky though. First off, don't follow what the docs they send you say about reprogramming the module, start off by running the program 'gpssk'. This is a very simple program that interfaces to the GPS module and tells you everything you need to know. It will even tell you how many sats the module is seeing. If you get no response in gpssk you either have a problem with your interface circuitry or a flash you did actually worked. In the first case check your circuitry. In the second case I recommend you do all your initial testing with the module in TAIP mode. Note that you MUST have the module connected to COM1, I never got it working right on COM2. As for reprogramming the module the message you have there tells me that either you didn't follow the programs instructions or you have the wrong version. Unscrew the board from the metal box and read what version your module is (if gpssk is working it lists what version module you've got). My module is version 5.10. Go to the FTP site as instructed and make sure you download the correct version. To flash the module you actually have to follow exactly what it says, when you run the flashing program (for TAIP it ends in -63, for NMEA it ends in -62, IIRC) there is a stage where you are instructed to power down and then power up the module, you must do this, in fact when I power down I short the two power pins together to ensure a complete power down. If you don't power down the module will likely not program. FWIW even when I do this it sometimes won't program, it sometimes takes a few tried before it will take the config. Aside from that the modules work fine for me, I have them both programmed with NMEA and both output position, eventually. After a complete power fail it can take up to 10 minutes for it to aquire the sats. Note you MUST have an UNOBSTRUCTED view of the sky, preferably ALL of the sky. Windows generally are OK (the signal passes through my car windsheild) but trees, buildings, and people are a killer to the signal. I had a problem with my second module, it would not aquire any sats, I emailed bg and they offered to exchange it, however before that happened the module started working! Can't explain that one but my point is BGMICRO will stand behind the product and replace it if you have problems. Good luck, hope this helped, please let me know if you need more info/help. TTYL PS. If anybody knows of Palm GPS software that has maps for Canada for a cheap price let me know, I'd love to mount the module in the care using a Palm as a display. Right now I plan to use a laptop and Microsoft Streets and Trips, which works perfectly, but is a little larger then I would prefer.
