This idea has been floating around for a while but there is an IP issue
with it. What would stop anyone from using the code for his commercial
purposes ? Once in the public domain (which it effectively would be once
it is released somehow) what prevents someone else from repackaging it and
selling it or embedding it into something you did not intend it for.
