>> Just in case people want to make .hlp files and don't want to go through the headach of downloading lots of crap over-priced and over-complicated programs like I did. :o) -Roman << I had ache finding a suitable CHM compiler .... settled on freebie htmlhelp http://www.htmlhelp-epublisher.co.uk/ but it was still not simple enough ( I read manual as last resort) . The site links to a defunct web2htmlhelp compiler . This is the simplest thing around for creating chm files. Just choose your index file , a few options , and compile ! But I found something better ... (free + $) URL http://www.spidersoft.com/far/far_inst.exe 1.8M Referer http://www.spidersoft.com/far/downloads.asp It needs microsoft html help workshop http://download.microsoft.com/download/msdnlib/Install/1.32/W9X2KMeXP/EN-US/ htmlhelp.exe 3.4M ( this can compile and Decompile CHM vs html) I needed the html help format which , though not universal across MS Windows (TM) , was great for me as it displayed html MUCH faster than ANY web browser. As a single file it was easier to use than dozens of html+gif+js etc. So Html e-books, manuals , and certain websites I copied offline were given the treatment , and now are easier to use ( and distribute ) than in IE/Opera. I have even compiled full directory contents to one CHM file ( needs you to create an Index file , though ) TOC,Index, compression etc can be has easy as you want it to be. CHM can run Java , and animations , sounds and probably virii depending on your IE security settings ... Try scrolling an .hlp file !
