Hi Folks, I've finally got through updating the El Cheapo software with the following major changes: 1. The "Programming and Customizing PICmicro(R) Microcontroller" PCB and Homebuilt version both use the same Windows Interface software now. 2. The programmer can handle hex files created in the 32 Bit and 8 Bit data formats. Sorry for all the people that had problems with that. 3. I have come up with a new circuit for the "Homebuilt" version which goes away from the resistor/transistor interface used in the original. This version should work a lot better. 4. The "Homebuilt" version can be built using either a DB-25F or a Centronics 36 connector to interface to the PCB. When you turn on the interface, you will get the opportunity to select which one your prefer (along with the PICmicro MCU that you are going to program) and the appropriate pins to wire will be displayed. 5. It's under the covers, but I split out the programming/verifying/blank check code for the different PICmicro MCU parts. This will allow me to update it for new devices (like the PIC16F7x which I have said I would like to do for some time now) much more easily than I could in the past. Lastly, I do have code written that will display the configuration fuses and allow the user to modify them before programming the device. Once I'm sure there aren't any problems with version 0.81, I will integrate the configuration fuse display/modify code into the programmer code. Along with these updates, I've updated the "Programming and Customizing PICmicro(R) MCU" book page with a pointer to the El Cheapo page (I will no longer be placing updates here, just in the El Cheapo page) and included downloadable copies of the "Analog Clock" application source code ("clock.asm") as well as "structre.inc". These files were missing in the original CD-ROM that came with the book. The updates are available at http://www.myke.com If you've sent me an email over the past couple of weeks, I apologize for not getting back to you quickly - I have been working on the El Cheapo code (as well as a new robot...). myke -- http://www.piclist.com hint: The list server can filter out subtopics (like ads or off topics) for you.
