Vic I don't know what the specs are for the LED's you plan to use, however if we assume that they need more then what a PIC port can supply (~20mA) you will need to buffer the outputs with something. I recommend using some "jellybean" NPN transistors, doesn't really matter which ones since you won't be drawing that much current and you don't need super hihg speed.
