I can tell you guys haven't worked in a fab shop! ;o)
Try filling the tank with very slightly damp sand,
the fuel residues only burn with lots of oxygen. The
sand packs tight and displaces the air, won't cool the
welding down like water, won't boil and steam burn you,
etc etc. Try not to get air pockets in there and
PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!
