I haven't worked out what this mess results in, but I doubt anything relevant. There are so many errors here, I don't know where to begin. First, I think your intent was to find RMS voltage (the "waveform"?) accross the resistor, then calculate power because you know the resistance. Even if this had been done correctly, it would only tell you the power going into the resistor, not the power into the load under test. The power into the resistor is a function of load current only. Second, integrating the voltage accross the resistor, then squaring it does not produce a meaningful value here. To get RMS, you start by integrating the square, not squaring the integral. You then have to take the square root. I assume you omitted this step because you wanted the square of the voltage accross the resistor. Third, power into a resistor is V**2 / R. You are trying to compute V**2 * R, which is certainly not a unit of power. Fourth, you are assuming the power draw is synchronized with a flash. This would need to be proven first of course, but is highly unlikely. Power draw is much more likely to be synchronized with the power cycles, although the amount drawn each power cycle probably is a function of the number and strength of flashes since the previous peak power draw. I would set the strobe to flash at a rate much higher than the power line frequency, and then ignore the effect of individual flashes. The power draw should then be smoothed out by the filter caps in the power supply. ***************************************************************** Embed Inc, embedded system specialists in Littleton Massachusetts (978) 742-9014, http://www.embedinc.com -- http://www.piclist.com hint: To leave the PICList mailto:piclist-unsubscribe-request@mitvma.mit.edu
