The old Protel had a separate "plot" program, traxplot.exe. I found that you got better results if you 'plotted' with an HP7470 to a file then ran a conversion program (name forgotten) which generated PCL for the printer. The HPlsr300.drv was pretty poor at getting a good solid plot, partly because it insisted on having A4 paper (Protel was written in Austrailia).
