One of the reasons. The PIC16F87x family has a lot going for it. I use it extensively. But it isn't in my comparison list because it doesn't offer an 18/20 pin package. The 16F628 is a pin for pin replacement for the 16F84A. It only loses one and exactly one measure to the 16F84A: it doesn't run 16F84A code without modification.
