It sounds like a good questions for your microchip rep. My only fear is that since the parallel port, at its fastest, can be faster than a USB port's real throuput (which is typically less than the 12MBps its rated for) (IIRC) then you may run into some issues. You should be able to find PCMCIA parallel port cards as well which should do the trick. Expect to pay $100 or so for one, though - if the laptop you want comes with one for $100 more then I'd just get it built in. -Adam Larry G.
