USB to "anything" adapters are always dodgy. One may work OK with one piece of equipment but not with another. A better (and cheaper) solution is to pick up a PCI Parallel Port card. SIIG makes good ones, I use a SIIG Duet PCI Parallel Card to expand my parallel ports from LPT1: through LPT3:. It uses a single slot/connector and has a nice breakout cable for the two parallel ports. Very handy. Price should be from $10 for a single cheapie port to $50 for a deluxe multi-port model.
