You should be able to put suitable ASCII codes on the lines and pulse the
strobe line. The printer will probably not print until you put in a CR
(0x13) and maybe a line feed (0x10) character. Then it will print the whole
line.

Get a book on PC hardware interfacing, preferably an early one that has the
waveforms for the printer port to see what you need to do.
