True I would normally use the first incarnation, apart from=
 anything
else I think it's easier to read and follow by anyone.

However I would have expected the compiler to produce almost the=
 same
code, as essentially the two versions are supposed to be
syntactically correct and lead to the same code - I hate C bring=
 back
