Maybe your link bypassed them? I tend to ignore or kill pop-ups. Without knowing your computer setup,ISP,network and so on, I can only guess as to what is going on, I know Tripod replaces images with their own logo if you try to use images stored on a Tripod site on non-tripod pages, so maybe something you are doing trips that up.
