This sort of stuff should not pose any problems. Surface mount stuff is routinely used in space electronics - it is almost impossible to get through hole mounting passive components that are qualified now. Things like transistors mounted on heatsinks need suitable flexible wires to their leads to prevent leads shearing off at the PCB or package. Typically large (as in CKR06 type capacitors or similar) components which have minimal self support on (typically) two leads require staking using an epoxy abutment to support the component mass. May not be a problem for amateur rocketry, but we have to test at random waveform of around 9G for a minute or more, these sorts of things do break. -- http://www.piclist.com hint: To leave the PICList mailto:piclist-unsubscribe-request@mitvma.mit.edu
