Well he will have if the shot does not explode :)

If it does explode then I guess you could say there was no failure :)

The worst thing to worry about will be a failure of the electronics causing
the shot to explode while still in the firing barrel, or just as it leaves
the barrel. To counter this I think I would try some test firings with the
electronics igniting suitable fireworks before dealing with live shells.
This will also potentially allow you to recover the electronics package to
assess how rugged you have managed to make it, while also verifying the
software works correctly.
