I do it all the time "on the fly" as I use bigger pads on Single sided boards. I have made up a couple of my own library files so that my own parts don't get wiped out every time I upgrade or re-load eagle. You can make your own libray called talsrcl.lbr (for example). To make your own version of a component; 1. Open up the original eagle library 2. Edit the required package 3. Use the group tool to group the whole package 4. Choose "Cut" and then right click on the origin. 5. Close the library without saving (unless you want any changes to be permanent) 6. Open (or create) the talsrcl.lbr file 7. Create a new package & give it a name 8. Click paste 9. Click on the origin 10. Modify to your heart's content. 11. Save your new library. Good luck!
