>Ever performed "tuner alignment"? I would expect >that everything (including the ceramic tuning caps), >by now, has (have) aged and the nominal F_sub_o has >changed. Ouch. No :( I've read through the entire set alignment proceedure for the CTC-15/16 (the DO-2 is actually a 15 derivative) and it's *nasty* complex... >A lost art to be sure ... that along with IF alignment >on a set of that vintage - a process that required a >sweep generator equipped with crystal-controlled 'markers' >(that were used to denote important frequencies like >the video and audio carrier freqs, the color burst >freq) Ahh, I have the equipment, and an HP frequency counter to make sure it's all exact :) I've done B&W sets (noteably a Bendix and a Setchel Carlson). They're not horrid. The Sams on them is always helpful (not). > and a pocket full of 'diddle sticks' to fit the >ferrite core slugs that were adjustable in the slew of >IF transformers and various adjustable 'traps' that >made up the IF system in a set ... I suspect the whole set has drifted. The Sylvania is my bedroom set (!), and very nice, save for the convergence, which is still not right. I swapped CRTs in it, though, so I started from *scratch* the last time I did it. It's pretty close, though, and definately watchable, but there's a visable misconvergence, which I suspect is just the red static. I once saw a totally restored CTC-9, and the picture was truely jaw dropping. I've heard CTC-2s are really nice when they're done right, too... BTW - does ANYONE use I/Q color demodulation anymore? -- http://www.piclist.com hint: The PICList is archived three different ways. See http://www.piclist.com/#archives for details.
