Just a quick note to let people know that all new WARP-13s sold from all USA, UK (online shortly) and Australian resellers has basic support for the 18Fxxx pics. There is no extra charge for this support and it is not what I would want as my final product but hey it works and I have used it successfully. There is a 18Fxxx bootloader (and a 16F87x bootloader for that matter) built into the WARP-13 software. I hope to document details on this shortly also. Please watch http://www.newfoundelectronics.com for details as more and more info is being posted. Below is some additional text that is NOT yet on my web page but will be edited and uploaded in the next few days. -------------------------------------------------------- 18F252, 18F452, 18F242, 18F452, 18F258, 18F458 UPDATE 13th May 2002 (It s here!) A "official" interim firmware release with 18Fxxx support has been released. WARP-13s now come with the new firmware RedBack 9 supporting 18Fxxx PICs from the following resellers.. DonTronics CSS Inc Peter Anderson Reynolds Electronics (UK Resellers online shortly) This is not the planned BluePole 18Fxxx based firmware (4-8 weeks away depending on when stocks of the 18Fxx2 arrive.) Rather it is an extended RedBack series firmware based on the 16F73 PIC. I managed to find room for the code after I deleted the unused scenix stuff and older Serial EEPROM code. Hopefully the newer serial EEPROM code that is compatible with the Windows driver still works. We have not tested this and as always do not guarantee the serviceability of the serial EEPROM bonus support. This code is exactly what NEWFOUND ELECTRONICS is using to program the 18Fxxx parts now and it is not beta as such but nor is it developed feature wise. It is compatible with the current posted driver on my web site and it is NOT MPLAB compatible as there is no MPLAB PICSTART support for these parts. This 18Fxxx support probably will NOT be compatible with future software releases and as such there are no guarantees on this and there is no charge for newer firmware. Current 18Fxxx support is to be considered a Bonus feature but I will certainly fix bugs and respond to any other support issues. While support for it may not continue (in its current form that is) there is no time limit on the software either and the current drivers maybe used indefinitely. While RedBack 9 WARP-13s will be available from to resellers today to no policy on the sale of chips is in place as of yet though there have been some informal arrangements made for urgent cases. VERIFYING 18Fxxx PICS NOTE: Version 1.06.00 beta 1 and beta 2 versions of the driver DO NOT verify the 18Fxxx parts automatically as part of the programming procedure. You can do a manual verify if you wish. Also, the method of selecting code protection differs from all other PICs. To program a code protect bit uncheck its bit on the code protect form. A check or tick means the Bit is left as a logic 1 and the corresponding code protection range is NOT activated. To activate a code protection range you uncheck or untick the corresponding box. 18Fxxx UPGRADE POLICY: For existing WARP-13 and other NEWFOUND ELECTRONICS programmer owners. Information to be presented shortly.
