I am looking for an Infrared to serial device that will allow me to use any standard TV Remote control to control an application on my Linux system. I have found a multitude of references to Ties Bos but his web address at http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Sector/3863/uir/index.html is no longer valid. There seems to be 2 sorts of devices. 1. Small amount of parts like the one at http://www.armory.com/~spcecdt/remote/remote.html where it controls a handshaking line and the host computer needs to time the delay between pulses. 2. The Intelligent type where a pic or other hardware will send data corosponding to the pulse lengths. An example of this is http://mikro.e-technik.uni-ulm.de/research/urcr.htm It uses a 16F84 PIC for the engine. Has anyone played enough to give me a suggestion on the best/most reliable way to go. I am also having no luck at all in finding the IR receiver. The projects I have found all use similar sensors like TSOP1736, SFH5110 etc. Can anyone advise where I can purchase these devices in Australia. I have tried Jaycar, Tricky dickies, Farnell, RS Components and even Dontronics. Alternatively is there an international mailorder house that can supply these components to Sydney/Australia. -- Daryl Sayers Corinthian Engineering Ph: (02) 9906 7866 Suite 19, 401 Pacific Hwy Fax: (02) 9906 1556 Artarmon, NSW, 2064 email: daryl@ci.com.au Australia www: http://www.cordoors.com.au -- http://www.piclist.com hint: To leave the PICList mailto:piclist-unsubscribe-request@mitvma.mit.edu
