While not wanting to argue with the recommendation about avoiding reference params if portability to another compiler is important. It is worth saying that if you are only using CCS C then the reference params can make some inline functions much more efficient (which is I think the justification for adding them)..... So if you are using CCS as a sort of high level assembler then using reference params *may* have a place in the toolbox.....
