Bob, Have you tried upgrading the PICSTART's firmware? It'll cost you about $20 to replace the 17C44. About a year ago, I replaced the electrolytic cap in the wall wart and that had cleared up a similar problem that I was having then. This time I went straight to a bench supply to power the darned thing. No help. I've set the PicStart's power in at 9 volts and it's pulling something around 100 millamps. (I haven't measured the current all that accurately but it looks reasonable on the bench suppy's current meter.) I have tried running it with the comm port FIFO buffering both on and off. Neither way seems to affect the symptoms. I tried going back to a previous version of MPLAB but that didn't help either. (I'm currently using the 5.50 version.) Anyone have any ideas of what else I can try to resolve this?
