Since we have a thread on silver extraction, I thought I'd go ahead and ask about gold. My parents have a peice of property on a man-made lake that was once a valley that gold was mined from. The soil is littered with very fine gold colored flecks, presumably gold and not pyrite. I'm guessing over the years the gold has been leached out of the now submerged mines and redeposited in the soil. Is there any way to recover the gold? I'm not really interested in the gold for monetary gains (although I wouldn't complain), I'm just wondering if it can be done. It might be nice to cast some gold trinkets or add gold leaf to the mantle. I've already tried heating a sample of the soil in a wood stove that was as hot as I could stand to make it. As expected, nothing happened. Any ideas? -- http://www.piclist.com hint: To leave the PICList mailto:piclist-unsubscribe-request@mitvma.mit.edu
