I've just taken apart an older and defective HDD and saw how the head carrying arm is built: a flat coil with a large diameter (although not circular) moving between 2 enormously powerfull magnets. I got the idea to try to use this on a model R/C ship and thought of translating the PWM signal from the receiver to whatever kind of signal this arm will require to function. I know this is not a strictly PIC related question, but has anyone ever tried this before? How? From what I've learned looking at the PCB of the HDD, the circuit resembles an H-bridge. I assume the hdd controller uses some kind of PWM to control where exactly the arm is, with a high frequency as opposed to the 50Hz/20ms repeat period of the R/C systems, hence the pic for translation, and very similar to a DC motor controller. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thank you. ===== ing. Andrei Boros Centrul pt.
