It seems that when using a 16F84 it's a matter of personal opinion=2E

I'd like to use port A for serial I/O and control functions, so that I have=

all 8 bits from port B available for byte size operations=2E

I'm making a controller board for 16 5" 7-segment LED displays=2E Displays=20
arranged 4x4=2E
First I put the segment data on a latch, then I put the digit address on a=20
74HCT154 to clock the corresponding latch (each digit has its own latch and=
=20
driver=2E I address each segment individually (forming characters in softwa=
re)=2E
