That would be enough for most devices.  Many times you can get away with
just RX, TX, and GND.  However modems use more lines.  At the least you will
probably need DTR and DSR.  These are often used to indicate/control on/off
hook.

By the way, please fix your email settings to drop the deliberate REPLY
address.  This saves everyone the trouble of having to manually set it back
to the list.
