A TBC is not a 'frame sychronizer'. TBC's do not have to store a full frame in order to do their job. Early units had little more than a 5 line correction range, relying on 'advance sync' sent to the VCR to get the timing close to what was needed. A FS in front of his monitor will take care of the jump problem since it won't care about the sudden changes in sync phase. It will simply repeat the last good frame before outputing the retimed new frame. If you don't ask for a FS, you may not get what you need. Yes, many modern TBCs do FS, but not necessarily (particularly cheap TBCs). The Sony & JVC VCR's with built in "TBC" ARE NOT FS capable, yet do have a valid TBC inside.
