I was wondering which programmer I should use. I just tried building the JDM pic programmer at this web site, http://www.jdm.homepage.dk/newpic.htm . I choose this one because it seems simple, has no need for power supply, and does many different pic chips. Unfortunately it didn't seem to work right. It would not write to the chip, ( I have a few 16F84A chips ). I may have been reading it, I'm not sure since it would show the chip as empty and they probably are since they are new. I used the serial connection instead of parallel because I couldn't seem to get any software to accept LPT1 as the port, they would only accept COM ports. So I don't understand why all the programmers on the web use parallel port connections intead of serial. Should I try a different programmer, or should I just buy one pre-built. I am experienced in electronics and soldering so building it should not be a problem, if it is going to end up working. But if I try to build this thing too many times, it will end up costing less to just buy one already working. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what to do. Either how to fix the one I tried to build, another one to build that works better, or which one I should buy.
