In the present case, surely it would seem that human rights are something we all support, but, for example, you may not have noticed that there is at least one prolific poster (whose posts are invariably well-informed, interesting, and useful) who comes from a country whose government systematically denies human rights to a captive population of several millions, and which is repeatedly condemned, appropriately so in my opinion, by Human Rights Watch for its racist, immoral, and murderous actions. To avoid useless off-topic debates that might offend some of the best list members, perhaps we should stick to technical issues and leave the politics to other lists? Just a thought.
