I would not want to do it if using the A/D converter, unless some serious
precautions were taken in the A/D sampling rate to put a notch at the mains
frequency. This will limit the maximum frequency the A/D will be able to
sense, probably to a point where you will be able to measure only DC. If you
are that tight for room this would probably be the case anyway.

I would also agree about the problems with board flexing. If this is a
commercial product you are developing there is only one response - don't do
it, it will definitely cause reliability problems.
