After 15 years as a pc hardware support engineer, after endless hardware items, all I can say those all-in-one MBs are in the very low-end products. it's works bad, sometimes made of junk chipsets, drivers seems sometime not accepted by system software and so on. I think the bottom line is low price low engineering and a very low performance. even it's bad for running windows, I use it as a MP3 player in cars. :-)))) Regards Tal Bejerano AMC - ISRAEL -----Original Message----- From: pic microcontroller discussion list [mailto:PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU]On Behalf Of Edson Brusque Sent: Friday, March 15, 2002 2:50 PM To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Subject: [EE]: PC Motherboard with onboard features. All disadvanages??? Hello, I'm testing a motherboard with VGA/SOUND/LAN/MODEM on board. I was always tempted to think the fact that you have everything on the same board would make your system run faster because of a better bus between the devices. Well, it actually seens to be much slower than my ASUS P2B motherboard using the same processor (Celeron 366). Anybody can explain this? The Modem, LAN or the Sound devices uses the processor for some tasks as DSPing or something? That could explain why the performance decreases so much when I'm listening to MP3 while working.
