ratiometric = measuring (a|by) ratio

A potentiometer is a ratiometric device because the output voltage is a
ratio (fraction) of the input voltage, as set by the cursor, f.ex. A
ratiometric A/D converter and r. sensor used together will relax the power
supply requirements. The A/D in the PIC is r. wrt. the supply voltage of
the PIC (unless using a different reference).
