Actually the 3D feature of Protel is only a toy. You cannot set the height of components, instead it just uses some unchangeable fixed sizes based on the Protel standard part designators :-(. When they announced the 3D viewer I was tempted to have our company upgrade from Protel98 to get that feature. Thankfully I got the real info on the 3D viewer from the independent Protel Mail list before I had us waste our money (none of us here can find any new features of P99 that would be useful to us). Basically the 3D viewer is only suitable for impressing Marketing/Sales/Management types :-). There is a third party add-on for about $1000.00, I think, that lets you generate 3D models were you have complete control over the 3d parts outlines. FWIW - Protel has bought a bunch of other companies, including P-CAD, and now goes by the name Altium.
