Try this.......
555 in astable mode. Use a port pin to drive the 555 enable pin. Connect =
all the cathodes from the LEDs to the astable output. Enable off, output =
low, LED on full. Enable on, output astable, LED brightness controlled =
by astable duty cycle.=20
The 555 can source this direct aswell.
