When hardware handshaking is on, the plotter won't even move. Did you try a cable, wired as shown, with a DB9 <-> DB25 adapter? I think all the signals involved are there ion teh DB9. I'm tryng to remember whether I was using HW or SW handshaking on mine, but I can't, it was several years ago. Set teh plot speed down to 1-2" per second and have a beer while it plots. See my other message about this -- I hacked up an HP pen body to adapt a .5mm fine-tip permanent marker to the plotter. Also, we could not get the paper carriage to hold the PCB material well enough for good positioning, we had to tape it to paper.
