You can make a Volta style battery using slices of fruit, coins (copper - more exactly bronze) and zinc plated mild steel. You make a vertical stack of them. You can get pretty high voltage for a short time (certainly enough to bite you, especially with wet hands). I saw this once in a book about science fair experiments (for kids). The original recipe used blotting paper soaked in lemon juice instead of fruit slices. Volta used a strong acid afaik. Peter -- http://www.piclist.com#nomail Going offline?
