I watched "Messenger:The Story Of Joan Of Arc" last night
and was surprised to hear the English soldiers of the time,
early 15th Century, use the word (given that license to do so
by the film's director of course). According to

the word is actually at least that old. And yet it's still regarded
as shocking after almost 600 years
