Best bet is to use a GPS engine (this takes care of all the hard work). You can also buy GPS devices as provided by companies like SiRF ( www.sirf.com) but unless your getting into a mass produced product (and even then) the engine is the way to go. Examples; www.u-blox.com www.fastrax.fi just to name two (there are many, try a Google search) Next, depends on your engine manufacture. Generally speaking they all support or conform to NMEA-0183 (check out www.nmea.org). These are simple serial commands that can use most UART's on for example a PIC (to keep the PIC flavour). Most manufacturers also offer faster port access via propriatary interfaces. For those you'll reference each manufacturer. Sorry, but am having a busy day so that's about all I can provide for now.
