They are measurements of wire size in AWG, or American Wire Guage.  You
can find a wire guage chart here:

Which gives the diameter of the wire in inches and millimeters, its
circular area, and weight.

To my (limited) knowledge, AWG is a fairly universal standard, though
this chart shows AWG, W&M, SWG, BWG, US Standard.
