An alpha release is one which is known to be buggy or incomplete and is for testing or evaluation purposes. The term is not 9I think) widely used but I have seen it used this way on occasions. Presumably a Gamma version is what they actually sell you and a delta version is what they SHOULD sell you. I don't believe Micro$oft sell Delta versions.
