Sewage meter???  Have I missed something?  How do you measure sewage?

Well, I'm a bit thick myself, and it's good to hear there's an upside to
it; but I find being thick causes me to go 'round in viscous circles a
lot.

BTW, Jinx, I looked around but I couldn't find any elegant solution to
your wide-range crystal oscillator problem, especially not one that's
cheap, uses logic gates as gain elements, and produces anything close to
a square wave output.  I think the main difficulty is that any circuit
that works well at the higher frequencies is going to have a nasty
tendency to encourage low-frequency crystals to oscillate at some
overtone.
