Thanks for the recommendation. I'm *finally* able to use this $$$ piece of
junk HP color laserjet 5 to print PDF's.  I find it curious that HP japan is
bundling fineprint with their printers.  Wished they would have with this
one.  I've not had problems with most HP products, but this particular
laserjet is a dog.
