Examine the Connectix parallel port cameras. They use a cpia chipset and are supported under Linux (hence there is driver info). I have one on my desk and real soon now [tm] things are going to happen to it. I am not sure what kind of frame store it has, I suppose that it would be a good idea to scan and send the picture asap lest it fade on you. The sensor is CCD (so don't expect any amazing pictures from it). The lens has a depth of field of 2 inches or less which is just enough to focus on my nose and leave out the stubble on my chin. You get the idea. I am sure that more recent products are better, I got mine surplus from a friend who runs a computer shop.
