Ugh... >Sorry if this is something that's been talked about before (I'm relatively >new to the list) but has anyone here actually attempted some sort of DIY >car tracking system? I've pondered a few ways of doing this, such as using= a >simple direction-finding method using a transmitter, to implementing a >system whereby a coordinates from a GPS receiver are transmitted over a >radio system of some sort. However, I guess that in practice it would be >pointless saving money by making one and not just buying a commercial one= - >an approved tracker will save me more money on car insurance I suppose... Ugh...There comes an old, long and sad history... Ok. Many of you know I live in Brazil. "News" like these are always= celebrated here. Not only for the ones who need this kind of accessory,= but for the ones who copy it and sell for a rip. And this is how this= history goes... I made it. It was just simple! A modified cellular phone, one TCM3105= (yep, that nice modem used in BAYCOMM), a GPS module and a 8751 processor= to control everything. The entire circuit was simpler than stole a candy= from a child. The 8751 took the NMEA output of the GPS (which is nothing= more than current-level RS232), processed it to get latitude, longitude= and speed, encoded it with the TCM3105 and sent thru the cell phone. In an= event of the car being stolen, or the owner sequestred (is it the right= english word? Or would it be "abducted"? Ah, I think "Rape" is the right= verb...Oh, 08:30am in a sunday, lemme sleep!), the car would open up the= cellular connection, and start transmiting the position, along with audio= - if desired - of inside the car and the "porta malas" (brazilian friends,= help me with this word, I think is "truck"). Of course, the reverse would= also be possible - you could dial in the system in the car, and get it's= position at any time. Since there was a password for that - which only the= owner would know - there was no danger of his wife "spying" what the hell= he was doing at 02:00a out of his home :o) No need to tell - Project ready to sell, the plans were robbed. I was planing an entire company - would provide the sales, installation,= maintenance, survellance, and help the policy in case of stealing. Almost= everything was done. But the project was robbed, and cannot protect itself= ;o) In less than a month, it was produced and sold here, and everywhere. Of course, I cannot prove this is MY project. Maybe just my idea. Maybe= just a coincidence. But here was my history. The project who almost was sucess ;o) Life is harsh sometimes... ---8<---Corte aqui---8<---- Alexandre Souza taito@terra.com.br http://planeta.terra.com.br/lazer/pinball/ ---8<---Corte aqui---8<---- -- http://www.piclist.com hint: PICList Posts must start with ONE topic: [PIC]:,[SX]:,[AVR]: ->uP ONLY!
